SABERS CROSS COUNTRY ROAR TO TOP 20 FINISH AT STATES!!!
A cool, crisp, sunny day, befitting of the final day of the fall season, the Sabers took to the crowded course at Bowdoin Park for the NYS Cross Country Championship. For context, New York state has more than 700 schools and Spence qualified as one of the top 30 in the entire state to race in the NY State Championship of Champions.
After a wonderful send-off from the Spence faithful, complete with messages of well-wishes from across the community, the Sabers took to the course with the singular focus on their team goal of finishing the fall with a ROAR!
The Sabers did as they have done all-season, and ran a team FIRST race, not focusing on individual times – but order of finish! The team’s strategy once again proved to be a “win-win”, with some of the finest competitive running of the season leading the team to finish 2nd in NYC, behind only LaGuardia and 19th overall. Simply a remarkable feat in their first team trip to the State Championship. Spence finished ahead of city schools, Bronx Science, Notre Dame (Manhattan) and more than 100 points better than the only other Independent school in the race, Poly Prep.
Ada, Naomi, Eliana, Alex, Orly, Emma and Lily represented the 2024 AAIS and NYSAIS Champions with PAWFECTION, setting a new standard of excellence with the team’s outstanding PAWformance!
Congratulations, Sabers! You wore the Blue and Gold with PRIDE and we could not be prouder of your HERSTORIC accomplishments this season!
To the entire Spence Community who came out on Friday morning to send the team off in style, that is what makes Spence a special community! YOU ARE ALL True Blue and with your support, the Cross Country Team certainly did Saber The Moment!
The Sabers HERSTORIC Cross Country Season leveled up yesterday with the team’s FIRST EVER NYSAIS Cross Country TEAM Championship! The Spence team had 3 medalists, finishing in the Top 25 of the 217 runners, Ada, Naomi and Eliana! For the first time in school HERSTORY the Sabers XC Team will travel to Bowdoin Park on November 23rd to represent NYSAIS in the NYS Federation Cross Country Championship. Tremendous TEAM Effort and most imPAWtantly, way to SABER THE MOMENT!”
