Semester electives and discipline-based studios in the Upper School Art Program give students the chance to explore various media in-depth. Emphasis is placed on the visual expression of ideas, the creative value of taking risks and making mistakes, in addition to a vibrant combination of careful planning, visual problem-solving, and experimental play promoting both the creative environment and the intellectual context for artistic experimentation. While our classes offer specific courses of study, the Visual Arts Department highly encourages students to collaborate across disciplines, providing a foundation built on varying techniques and expertise to thoughtfully challenge prevailing conventions, develop new hybrid forms and expand the boundaries of artmaking.
