Instrumental Music Program

Private lessons in piano, violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, and percussion may be arranged through the school. All students are eligible to study piano and string instruments and must have access to an instrument for practice outside of school.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM
The Spence Ensemble, directed by Avigail Malachi, meets before school for students in Grades 3-5 who study a string or woodwind instrument either at Spence or outside the school and are ready for a beginning ensemble experience.

The Spence Orchestra, directed by Greg Harrington, meets one morning before school each week and one Saturday each month for students in Grades 6–12 who study an instrument either at Spence or outside. Membership in the orchestra is open, by audition, to students of intermediate and advanced levels who study strings, woodwinds, percussion or piano, can read music and are ready for an orchestral experience.
A K-12 independent school in New York City, The Spence School prepares a diverse community of girls and young women for the demands of academic excellence and responsible citizenship.
