Upper School Student Earns National Scholastic Gold Key

Upper School student and writer Joanna H. '26 has been recognized as a National Scholastic Gold Key winner in addition to earning a National Gold Medal in Personal Essay and Memoir and a Silver Medal in Poetry. Joanna’s poem, “Northwell Hospital,” and her memoir/personal essay, “A Brushstroke on a Character” received the honors.

In 2023 Joanna also received the YoungArts Award in writing/non-fiction for work generated in Ana Silva’s English class and work produced during her time in a New York Times' summer program. The YoungArts Award is a national award given annually that “recognizes work that demonstrates exceptional technique; a strong sense of artistry; and a depth of thinking/performance that exceeds the level of peers at this career stage.” In addition to being named a winner, Joanna's piece has been selected for inclusion in the non-fiction category of the Young Arts 2024 Digital Anthology.
