Spence 4x400M Relay Makes History at the Penn Relays

Spence’s first-ever appearance at the Penn Relays was a memorable one. The meet, first held in 1895, is widely viewed as the premier Track and Field competition in the country, featuring high school, collegiate and professional competitors from across the country. The Spence 4x400M Relay made the most of its moment on the big stage, returning with some Penn hardware!

Competing in the Girls Prep School division of the 4x400M Relay, the Sabers raced to place on the podium, collecting second place with a time of 4:03.08, just a mere second off of the school record time the Sabers set while winning the NYC Mayor’s Cup earlier this month.

The foursome of Sophie A. ’18 (59.74), Natalie B. ’17 (1:00.07), Keishan C. ’15 (1:03.03) and Frances L. ’15 (1:00.26) powered their way past the likes of Lawrenceville, Episcopal, Sidwell Friends, Hackley, The Hill School and others en route to collecting their silver medals. Only Providence Day School (Charlotte, NC) was able to best the Sabers in their historic run at Franklin Field, located on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

“Through 116 editions of the meet, more athletes have run at the Penn Relays than at any single meet in the world. More spectators have watched the meet than any in the world except the Olympics and World Championships,” according to the Relays.

Congratulations to Sophie, Natalie, Keishan and Frances on writing another chapter of Spence history and for representing Spence with True Blue distinction on the national stage!

Go Sabers!
