Spence Student Selected as Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra Member
Spence Upper School student Irene L. '27 has been selected as one of the members of the NYO2 2024 Orchestra.
NYO2—one of Carnegie Hall’s three National Youth Orchestras (NYO, NYO2, and NYO-Jazz)—is an intensive summer training program for outstanding young musicians. NYO2 musicians have the opportunity to work closely with top players from American orchestras and conservatories. NYO2 will perform at Carnegie Hall as well as Dallas, TX.
Irene, who plays the oboe, is also a student of the Juilliard Pre-College Division. Recently, Irene won the 2024 Juilliard Pre-College Open Concerto Competition, giving her the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Juilliard Pre-College Symphony. As the first oboist to win the competition in 24 years, Irene has proven herself to be a promising oboist at Juilliard Pre-College. Her performance will be held on May 4.
Congratulations, Irene, on your instrumental accomplishments!
