Spring Math Team Results

The Spence Upper School Math Teams continued to have a year full of accomplishments, finding success with spring math meets and individual rankings.

City-Wide Final Rankings
The rankings for this year’s city-wide competitions have been released, with Spence teams earning top positions. The Spring Junior Team earned second place overall, with Avery C. earning first place individually. Team participants included Melissa L., Sophia H., Ivy J., Caroline D., Avery C., and Kyichu T.

The Spring Soph-Frosh Team earned fourth place overall as a team, with Mei A. '26 securing fifth place individually. Team participants included Cindy M. '26, Ella K. '26, Atticus F. '26, Mei A., '26, and Sahana C. '26.

Senior Competes in NY State Mathematics League
Audrey W. '24 was selected last month for a spot on the NYC team for New York State Math League (NYSML). She traveled with the team on an overnight trip for an all-day competition in Owego, NY. Her team finished third overall, winning first place in the Power Round, which is a round that has novel mathematical definition and requires creativity and proof writing.

Horace Mann Mathematics Competition
The Spence Gold team recently participated at the Horace Mann Mathematics Competition. Team members included Melissa L. '25 , Avery C. '25, Ella K. '26, Cindy M. '26, Sahana C. '26, and Cindy W. '26. Jane S. '27 and Jocelyn S. '27 attended as alternates and competed with students from other schools.

At the competition, Cindy W. '26 and Avery C. '25 qualified for the individual tie-breaking finals. The top ten participants from the tournament were selected from approximately 100 students. Both students had to compete in a live "lightning round" in front of the entire audience. Cindy and Avery both did well, each winning additional points by being the first to correctly answer a question each. Avery finished in third place overall individually.

Congratulations to Spence Math Team members on an outstanding year!
