Spence Celebrates Alumnae at Reunion 2024

Spence welcomed alumnae back to reconnect and celebrate long-standing traditions, reminisce in classrooms, and discover all the ways Spence continues to thrive and evolve. This year, a record number of alumnae participated in Reunion, which kicked off with the 1892 Society Tea on Thursday.

In her remarks during the Friday opening luncheon, President of the Alumnae Association Dana Wallach Jones ’93 reflected on how Spence continues to impact her life: “One of the joys and privileges of being a member of the Spence Alumnae Association is the continuing access to the interesting, inspiring, remarkable women that have come through Spence’s doors. I am incredibly grateful for these meaningful, intergenerational friendships, and the people who are part of my life because of Spence,” she said.

Jones also had the honor of presenting the 2024 Judith Joseph Jenkins ’91 Distinguished Alumna Award to Leonore Huppert Levin ’64 and Judy H. Kim ’89. Both alumna received the award in honor of their professional accomplishments and their continued service to Spence. Learn more about the recipients here

Senior Class President Lola A. ’24 addressed her soon-to-be fellow alumnae and her Class of 2024 peers, speaking on what makes this new group of alumnae unique: camaraderie. “Perhaps the most important product of our togetherness is the support that grows from it,” said Lola. “As a class filled with phenomenal athletes, mathematicians, linguists, historians, scientists, artists, debaters, and activists, we never fail to rally behind each other.”

Alumnae and Spence parents with graduating seniors Anna Keller ’92, Jessica Malman Phillips ’92, Kristina Kaplan Wallison ’90, and Danielle Bregman Wiedemann ’90 helped hand out yellow roses to the members of the Class of 2024, welcoming them to the Spence Alumnae Association.

Head of School Felicia Wilks gave her annual “View from the Seventh Floor,” remarks, reflecting on the school year and her gratitude toward alumnae for their continued service to Spence. “I want to thank you for the ways that you engage with current students,” she noted. “You’re absolute role models—they look up to you. You make time to speak with them, you make presentations, you come to meetings. Our students have the privilege of knowing so many incredible women who’ve come before them. You give them hope and you expand their horizons around what is possible.”

Director of Institutional Equity MarQuis Chappell presented on Spence’s Civil Discourse Statement, facilitating exercises with alumnae to explore how the statement’s guidelines help students bridge differences to learn from one another. Read the full Civil Discourse Statement here.

Other Reunion events included a Saturday brunch, guided tours, and squash clinics at the 412 Squash Association.
