In a most impressive and complete display of team tennis, the Spence Sabers finished their 2022 season with a PAWfect 13-0 record, including a 3-2 victory over Dalton in non-league play this season. With a 4-1 victory over Nightingale Nighthawks this Friday, the Sabers made history with two back-to-back AAIS Championship and Tournament titles.

 

Seniors Clare and Cate were stalwart leaders, cornerstones of the Sabers’ culture of success and striving to be the best TEAM they play. The most imPAWtant keys to the Sabers’ success have unquestionably been the team’s depth and ability for players to contribute throughout the ladder with team members playing singles and doubles with a variety of partners, all the while supporting and challenging each other in practice each day!

 

In Friday’s Championship Match the team secured a 4-1 victory behind both strong singles and doubles play. At #1 Singles, freshman Jessica finished her AAIS campaign with an incredibly hard fought 9-7 win to finish with a 12-2 record. At #2 Singles, senior Clare secured a tidy 8-0 victory, mirrored by junior Isabella’s 8-0 victory at #3 Singles. Both Clare and Isa played singles and doubles during the season, and were perfect each time they took the court in AAIS matches. First Doubles tandem of Margot and Milla battled to an 8-4 victory, and while the 2nd Doubles pairing of Cate and Lauren fell 4-8, their long rallies and resilient play made for a highly entertaining and exciting match with fans lined behind the court watching intently.

 

The Sabers’ Team season was an unquestioned success and their championship crowns were well earned through dedication and a true investment of every team member in the goals of the team.  In a sport many assume is an individual one, the Sabers proved again that tennis is in fact a TEAM sport and that their unity and teamwork is the strength of this PACK and the very best way to SABER THE MOMENT!
