In 2023, the Sabers tennis team once again turned in PAWfection on the court as the back-to-back defending league champions were again perfect in 2023 and captured their 3rd consecutive AAIS Tennis Championship.  The Sabers added to their historic season as their top doubles tandem finished as the NYSAIS Tennis Championship Runner-Up, a first for Spence Tennis.

In 2024, Spence will rely on its balanced play between both singles and doubles.  As long been the tradition of Spence tennis, versatile players capable of playing either singles or doubles have added depth and strength to the Spence line-up.

 

In 2018, the Sabers took the AAIS Tennis tournament by storm, entering as the No. 6 seed and upsetting the No. 3 and No. 2 seeds on their way to finishing as tournament runner-up. In 2018, Spence was undefeated at the No. 1 singles position for the first time in more than five years. As 2013 AAIS Regular Season Co-Champion and 2011 AAIS Tournament Champion, Varsity Tennis has an established history of success. Student-athletes are challenged to build advanced individual skills and employ them in a competitive AAIS regular season schedule and a postseason team tournament. Regular season matches include singles and doubles play, and athletes will learn to employ competitive strategies in all forms of match play.

 

The team practices and competes at various venues throughout NYC. As is the case with all of our varsity teams, tennis is a Monday-through-Friday commitment. Athletes are required to supply their own racquets and to wear tennis court shoes.
